In its ability to paint a scene and provoke emotions, music has a narrative power that is often overlooked even despite the rich history of atmospherically potent concept records. But the melodeath-infused extremities of solo project Through Mists tap into this spirit, weaving an epic narrative across tracks and now across multiple releases. Building upon the foundation initially laid down by February’s The Forest’s Edge comes a grittier offering entitled Kingdom Of The Sky, which tells of The Traveller’s rise to power and subsequent overthrowing by those he has wronged. It harnesses the adventurous spirit of music whilst touching on themes that have been relevant since the founding of human civilisations – how power corrupts, how amassing wealth means oppressing others, and how there is only one thing that can be done when a tyrant rises to power.
