Premiere: (is) – Pychoprobe Console

Described as “an ambient album for the apocalypse”, the new album from Isobel Bess, aka (is), is yet another enchanting release from Grimalkin Records, and to celebrate pre-orders going live today we’re thrilled to be bringing you a premiere of album track ‘Pychoprobe Console’.

It’s a deeply resonant thirteen-minute endeavour, the sort of track that seeps under your skin, feeling at once expansive and yet uniquely intimate – as if tapping into frequencies hand-picked for you and you alone. Making use of an enigmatic mix of bass, synthesisers, field recordings, spoken word and electroacoustic sound manipulation whilst taking atmospheric inspiration from the speculative futures of writers like Samuel R. Delany, Arkady and Boris Strugatsky, and Octavia Butler, Light Play is a release that asks wordless questions, playing with the foundations of texture and space within music.

You owe it to yourself to give it a listen and put in a pre-order. Tape proceeds go to Project Safe Philly Sex Worker Relief Fund.

Light Play is out 15th April via Grimalkin Records. Order here.
