Though it is in truth a compilation of already released music, the new record from Massachusetts sludge outfit Chained To The Bottom Of The Ocean operates so flawlessly as a singular body of work that it almost feels more like their debut album, following on from their first demo in 2017 and the two preceding EPs in 2018 and 2019. The Vestige is a monolith of an LP, presenting the band’s utterly corrosive and yet strangely poignant strain of ultra-slow, ultra-heavy metal. In compiling their work thus far, it simultaneously feels like the closing of an opening chapter and the beginning of a new one, showcasing their potential whilst reminding us that they’ve shown no signs of stagnating.
Enamoured by this release, we reached out to the band for an interview, which can be read here, and are beyond thrilled to simultaneously share this stunning live video with you. This year, live videos have increasingly become a way to cope with the lack of gigs, and we’ve had this set on repeat ever since the band sent it over.
