Premiere: Trippy Wicked – Killfornia

Even within a wider genre populated by bands like Mammoth Weed Wizard Bastard and King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard, the name of UK trio Trippy Wicked And The Cosmic Children Of The Night stands out. Listen to their music, though, and the eccentric nature of their name makes perfect sense. The only thing more alarming than that name is the band’s unique music, which blends warm fuzzy grooves with surrealist humour and an absolutely filthy guitar tone.

Like many others, the band’s plans have been curtailed by Covid in 2020, with their third full-length being postponed. To kill the time during lockdown, the trio took to remotely recording acoustic material they’ve worked on over the years. These tracks, a mix of covers and acoustic renditions of their own songs, have been helping to keep us entertained during this bleak year, so be sure to check out the playlists on Spotify and YouTube. There’s more to come, though, and the latest track is an infectious rendition of Church Of Misery‘s ‘Killfornia’.

Astral Noize is excited to be able to offer an exclusive stream of this cover before its release on Wednesday. Compared to the original’s unsettling sampled intro and hard-hitting riffs, it’s a laid-back rendition with a surprisingly fun tone – the perfect example of the band’s eccentric sense of humour. It may lose some of the original’s heaviness but it sacrifices none of the catchy rhythm, so check it out below now.

Killfornia is out Wednesday 14th October. For more of the band’s covers, click here.
