Video Premiere: Allfather – Citadels (Century Sessions Volume 1)

It’s not exactly ruffling any feathers to say that 2020 has been a shitshow even by modest standards. If you’re not at least a little bit angry at the state of the world right now, you’re probably not paying attention. Managing this anger can be tough, but then again not all of us have vicious metal bands to channel our anger and offer some degree of catharsis.

By returning to the studio for new EP Century Sessions Volume 1, Medway’s finest Allfather have made their already formidable sound that much more ruthless, injecting an even more seething, stifling energy into their music that’s befitting this absolute write-off of a year. Recorded live at Century Studio during a relentless heatwave, the EP includes a few of the band’s finest hits alongside two brand new tracks, all showcasing their impactful sound, which manages to be entirely their own whilst simultaneously offering the kind of no-frills energy most bands can only dream of. Imagine punk-infused stoner rock merging with the chaotic energy of thrash metal to such an extent that it’s now little more than an amorphous slab of killer riffs and deep bellows for which the only descriptor that feels apt is simply “heavy fucking metal”.

This new EP, recorded by Jason Frye (Harrowed), is in line to be one of the few highlights of a dreadful year when it drops on Friday 4th September, but you don’t have to wait until then to hear every track, as the EP’s rendition of ‘Citadels’ can be heard today right here alongside footage of the band in the studio. Check it out below then head to the band’s Bandcamp page to pre-order the full release.

Century Sessions Volume 1 is out 4th September. Order here.
