Having spent time in Gets Worse, Sloth Hammer, Hundred Year Old Man, Diascorium, Narcosis and quite literally countless others, Paul Priest has honed his talents as a purveyor of all things dark and heavy. But despite being largely instrumental and often fairly minimalist, it is his solo work under the moniker of The Owl that is perhaps his heaviest work to date – not always in sound or production, but in the sheer imposing atmosphere of it all.
New single ‘It Is Time To Rest, My Friend’, taken from upcoming EP Preludiene And Exaltations, is the perfect example of this. Introducing itself ominously with strained piano, the track gradually grows into something cacophonous and unsettling as it strays further and further from conventional sounds, and ascends into captivating realms of boundless experimentation.
Hear this brilliant new track below, and look out the full EP when it drops in two weeks’ time.
Preludiene And Exaltations is out 21st August via Trepanation Recordings.
