AN014: Hundred Year Old Man – Rei

“Rei is a cracking place to start with Hundred Year Old Man; a refreshing take on post-metal and bursts with originality, atmosphere and aggression.” ~ Echoes & Dust

Astral Noize Records are delighted to reissue Leeds, UK based post-metal sextet Hundred Year Old Man‘s 2018 EP Rei on cassette for the very first time. This special release has been made in conjunction with Cassette Store Day 2019, and will be available from 12th Oct 2019 (pre-order here). As a unique bonus to this cassette, Side B includes three bonus tracks, ‘Cease (Part One)’, a cover of Pink Floyd‘s ‘Welcome To The Machine’ and ‘Phuul [Aemaeth Remix]’.

Released back in early 2018, the Rei EP was a pre-cursor to HYOM’s full-length debut Breaching (also available on cassette through Astral Noize Records) showcasing a more introspective side of the band’s sound. Rei opens with ‘Sun & Moon’; perhaps the closest to a ballad in the band’s repertoire. The song transitions from melodic, dreamy verses into an explosive and heart-wrenching chorus. The title-track demonstrates the staggering ambition that Hundred Year Old Man possess, ripping into cathartic sludge reminiscent of Neurosis at their best. A towering, immersive, nine-minute journey that refuses to loosen its grip until the dying moments.

FFO: Neurosis, Cult Of Luna, Amenra, Jesu, The Ocean
